Dana owens, ma, lpcc, NCC

Hello, and Welcome!

My name is Dana Owens, and I am a human who has been where you are right now — looking for someone to help me hold and move through the dark and painful aspects of life. I believe in the core of my being that healing is possible, and I’m honored that you would pause here, considering me to walk this journey with you.

When I’m not working with clients, I still find myself wanting to be curious about and discuss the human experience. I consume poetry daily and love watching character-driven films. My undergraduate degree is in English literature, and I have been in a science fiction and fantasy book club for nearly seven years. On sunny days, I’m outside gardening and planting, paddling around (let’s be real, mostly floating) on my kayak, hiking our local mountains, and snapping film photos.

counseling philosophy

Deeply Humanist

I believe in every person’s innate and indisputable value and worthiness. As a humanist counselor, I value the powerful forces of subjective experience, creativity, authenticity, and meaning-making.

Embodiment

My approach is nervous-system and somatic focused, and I am passionate about helping clients feel safe and at home in their bodies. I am HAES-aligned and believe that all bodies are good bodies.

Attachment-Focused

To be human is to desire connection with others, and I feel passionate about un-doing feelings of aloneness and supporting clients in healing attachment wounds and building satisfying relationships.

Culturally-Aware

My approach is culturally-aware and honors the unique identities of my clients. I practice antiracism and recognize that “a safe place” is determined by the individual seeking care. The populations I frequently work with are those who have experienced spiritual/religious abuse and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. I work from a feminist, systemic lens, conceptualizing my clients’ struggles within the systems that shape their experiences.
